These questions are asked by people who enjoy writing creatively and are interested in a writing career or part-time job.
I was also asked in an interview with Limattwelle, 《CH-Medien》and how I got there.
In this blog article I would like to give you an insight into the job of a copywriter and some tips on how you can become a copywriter yourself.
A copywriter is someone who writes texts for the media, among other things. This can be advertising texts for advertisements or websites, articles for magazines or blogs, product descriptions for online shops, texts for social media channels or content. A good copywriter masters the art of captivating his readers, conveying information precisely and getting the message across.
To become a copywriter, you need first and foremost a passion for writing.
For me, this started in my early youth, with writing poems and giving lectures.
If you love being creative and juggling words, you're on the right track. It is an advantage if you have a good knowledge of German and a feel for language and style. Don't worry, you can evolve these skills too.
It is said that no master has fallen from the sky yet...
Another important quality in a copywriter is curiosity. I think going through life with open eyes is an essential part, not just for writing.
As a copywriter, you should be prepared to familiarize yourself with new topics, to be spontaneous and to acquire knowledge. You should be willing to inform yourself and research in order to write well-founded texts. Be open to new ideas and keep learning. In this way you can cover a wide range of topics and further develop your skills as a copywriter.
A good way to establish yourself as a copywriter and build references is to write guest articles for magazines or blogs. Choose topics that interest you and offer your services to the site operators. They are often happy about high-quality, free content and in return you get a platform on which you can present yourself.
Convince with your texts and gradually build up a portfolio.
Of course, at the beginning it takes practice and patience until you can reap the rewards. Another way to get started as a copywriter is to write product descriptions for small businesses. Many local shops or start-ups need attractive texts for their products. Offer your services and develop your skills. It is important to accept feedback and learn from constructive criticism.
Besides writing, it makes sense that you study the basics of marketing and advertising. As a copywriter, you often write copywriting for websites, so it's important to know how to positively attract attention and persuade readers. Keep up with the latest trends and developments in marketing and learn from the best in the business.
To be successful as a copywriter, self-promotion is an important part of getting yourself known. This includes actively promoting your services. This can, but does not have to be, with money and weekly campaign posts. Create a website, landing page (I can help you with that if you like), or a blog.

These are free to get you started, example from WIX.com , where you present your texts and give information about your work. Use social media channels like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or LinkedIn to draw attention to yourself. Share your work and share interesting articles or studies to position yourself as an expert in your field.
In addition to self-marketing, it also makes sense to build a network. Find contact with other copywriters, journalists or agencies. Join exchange groups, attend conferences or training courses and make contacts in the industry. Copywriters are often recommended through recommendations, so a good network can be of great importance.
As a copywriter, it's important to keep evolving and perfecting your craft. Read books about writing, take workshops or classes to further improve your skills. Be open to feedback and learn from your own writing. This is the only way you can be successful in the long term and establish yourself as a copywriter.
In summary, if you want to become a copywriter, a broad general knowledge, regular reading, possibly attending a creative writing course or workshop will help you to expand your knowledge. In addition, you should familiarize yourself with different genres of writing in order to be flexible and to be able to accept different assignments.
Ultimately, being persistent and continually working on your skills is key to becoming successful with copywriting.
I am in the process of creative development myself every day and am happy if I was able to give you a motivation boost for your starting shot with my contribution.
Kindly and see you soon Gabriela✒️🤩
