Today I'll write you my blog from the garden...

The perfect combination for a natural garden: green asparagus and black elderberry

These two wonderful plants grow right on my doorstep. Door up and down to the kitchen...

The natural garden is a paradise for nature lovers and offers a wealth of opportunities to experience the beauty of nature in its original form. A fascinating combination that can be found in such a garden is the combination of green asparagus and black elder.

In this blog article, we will take a closer look at this harmonious partnership and its benefits for the natural garden.

The natural garden as a retreat for nature

A natural garden is a garden that aims to promote ecological diversity and provide habitats for plants and animals. Instead of relying on perfectly trimmed hedges and meticulously manicured lawns, the focus is on natural development. By using native plants and creating ponds or wildflower meadows, the natural garden creates a retreat for nature.

Green asparagus - A delicious vegetable in the natural garden

Green asparagus (Asparagus officinalis) is not only a delicious delicacy, but also an attractive plant in the garden. In the natural garden, green asparagus can be grown as a perennial plant that sprout again every year. In addition to its culinary value, green asparagus also contributes to the diversity in the garden and provides a habitat for insects such as bees and butterflies.

Black Elder - A versatile shrub for the natural garden

The black elder (Sambucus nigra) is a native shrub that plays an important role in the natural garden. It offers not only a high ecological value, but also culinary and medicinal uses. The fragrant flowers of black elder attract many insects, while the berries are a valuable food source for birds in the fall. The berries can also be used to make delicious jams, juices and teas.

The harmonious combination of green asparagus and black elderberry

The combination of green asparagus and black elder in the natural garden is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also beneficial for both plants. The black elder provides protection and partial shade for the green asparagus, while the green asparagus offers the shrub a structured backdrop with its upright growth and fine leaves. This symbiotic relationship creates a harmonious

Interaction in the middle of the garden. Very useful, isn't it?

In order to successfully grow green asparagus and black elder, you should pay attention to a few things. Green asparagus prefers a sunny spot with well-drained soil. Make sure the soil isn't too wet, as this can damage the roots of the green asparagus. The black elder, on the other hand, thrives in both sun and partial shade and is adapted to different soil conditions. So totally easy to care for, although you really don't look at the plant.

When I moved into my new home, I thought oh there must be a landscaper at work here

This black elder has grown so wonderfully.

No, that's not the case... Both green asparagus and black elder are absolutely easy to care for.

Both plants require regular watering, especially during the vegetative phase. Make sure that the soil does not dry out and avoid waterlogging. Mulch the soil around the plants to retain moisture and reduce weed growth. That's it!

As soon as the green asparagus has been harvested, you can cut off the stalks and use them as mulch material. This promotes soil fertility and reduces the need for additional fertilizer.

If you now feel like having a green thumb, I can only recommend that you try it out and get into the bed!

Happy Friday blog and see you soon, Gabriela❣️👋🏻
